A new long-term phytoplankton dataset from the Romanian Black Sea is now available through EurOBIS and OBIS, further contributing to the harmonised marine biodiversity data accessible through EMODnet Biology.
The dataset, “Romanian Black Sea Phytoplankton data from 2006 to 2015”, was provided by the National Institute for Marine Research and Development “Grigore Antipa” (NIMRD), Romania. It brings together phytoplankton observations collected over ten years from Romanian coastal and continental shelf waters.
The dataset contains over 24,000 occurrence records, more than 170,000 measurements and information on over 250 taxa, including more than 200 species.
Making these historical monitoring data available in a standardised format supports their reuse in studies and assessments of phytoplankton biodiversity and ecosystem change in the Black Sea.
The dataset was published in February 2026 and is available under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 (CC BY-NC 4.0) license.
