The R packages were first released in 2022 (see news item) and have been subjected to improvements and changes ever since. In Phase V the consortium considered that by publishing them on CRAN, the Comprehensive R Archive Network, that they would be easier to install for anyone By submitting them to the rOpenSci software peer-review system first, we ensure their adherence to a set of quality criteria and benefit from the constructive feedback of external reviewers.
The first R-Package to go through the rOpenSci then CRAN submission processes was the emodnet.wfs which allows for the access and interrogation of EMODnet’s Web Feature Services. You can find emodnet.wfs’ documentation website built through rOpenSci at https://docs.ropensci.org/emodnet.wfs/ and you can install it from CRAN https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/emodnet.wfs/index.html
Work will continue to ensure that the emodnet.wcs R package is also submitted to rOpenSci and published on CRAN in the coming months.
