EMODnet is pleased to announce that Cousteau Divers has joined our network as an Associated Partner. Founded in 2009 by Pierre-Yves Cousteau, son of the legendary ocean explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Cousteau Divers is a French non-profit organization dedicated to ocean conservation and citizen science.
Cousteau Divers empowers recreational divers worldwide to contribute to marine research by collecting valuable environmental data during their dives. Through its innovative approach, the organization raises awareness of critical environmental issues and advocates for the creation of Marine Protected Areas.
A key innovation from Cousteau Divers is the Remora, a novel ocean data logger designed for scuba divers. The Remora records essential parameters such as temperature, depth, and GPS location during dives, generating scientific data that was previously unavailable for coastal marine environments. Thanks to the volunteer contributions of its global community, this technology provides regular, high-quality insights into ocean conditions.
By joining EMODnet, Cousteau Divers aims to expand its network of passionate divers, dive centers, scientists, and partners, fostering collaboration to enhance marine data accessibility and ocean stewardship. EMODnet looks forward to working closely with Cousteau Divers to advance shared goals of open marine data, citizen science, and sustainable ocean management.
