New EMODnet Biology product for exploring climate-driven spatial shifts in North Atlantic fish

News article |

Example of relative biomass change for a North Atlantic species in the EMODnet Map Viewer

This dataset provides projections of relative biomass change for 18 commercially important fish species across the North Atlantic from 2030 to 2100. Projections were generated using the Size Spectrum Dynamic Bioclimate Envelope Model (SS-DBEM) under the IPCC AR6 RCP 8.5 climate scenario and a fishing mortality rate of F/Fmsy = 1.0, representing exploitation at maximum sustainable yield.

Results are based on the ensemble mean of simulations driven by three biogeochemical models (GFDL, IPSL, and MPII). Biomass changes are expressed on a log-transformed scale and have been spatially smoothed using a 25-year focal window to emphasize long-term trends and reduce short-term variability.

Understanding how fish biomass may change under future climate conditions is essential for supporting sustainable fisheries management in the North Atlantic.
