During summer 2026, EMODnet Data Ingestion (DI) kicked off a new phase, with an updated consortium of organisations and experts, led by the CMCC, Italy. This delivers continuity of the existing service, together with strategic evolution of EMODnet’s data ingestion service building on the EMODnet Vision 2035. Going forward, DI will place particular attention on ingesting data from providers with no (or limited) established pipeline to EMODnet. This includes marine environmental and human activities data from the Blue Economy and wider private sector, coastal and offshore licensing activities, citizen science and other under-represented public sources and emerging observing systems.
The consortium will combine technical development, data management support, stakeholder engagement, capacity building and communication to simplify the contribution process, improve transparency and establish sustainable data flows. The work will also strengthen guidance for providers, submission tracking and connections with EMODnet thematic domains and trusted repositories.
