Near-seabed temperature standard deviation - the Caspian Sea

4-year standard deviation of near-seabed temperature in the Caspian Sea (values in celcius degrees), produced as part of EMODnet Seabed Habitats as an input layer for the EUSeaMap 2023 broad-scale habitat model. It was produced using the following archive, which provides model simulation results for temperature, salinity and currents: https://www7320.nrlssc.navy.mil/caspian/

Statement

Original dataset ( https://www7320.nrlssc.navy.mil/caspian/): each netcdf file has monthly mean outputs, more specifically provides simulated monthly values averaged over four years for 30 vertical levels. The grid of the original data is not regular (i.e. cells have variable spacing in their coordinate values), the average grid horizontal resolution being 3.3 km. Further detail on the model developed by the authors is provided in the web page and the paper https://doi.org/10.1016/j.csr.2010.03.011

This dataset: for each netcdf file containing monthly mean outputs, the last value available along the vertical axis was retained, leading to a single grid containing near seabed values. Then the standard deviation accross the 12 months was calculated for each grid cell. Finally, the grid values were reprojected into a regular grid using interpolation in order to comply with the EUSeaMap broad-scale habitat model approach requirements (i.e. regular grid, cell size 0.0010416667 decimal degrees).
