Nursery grounds for the common sole (Solea solea) in the French waters of the Atlantic Ocean

The common sole (Solea solea) nursery grounds dataset is derived from the existing (Trimoreau et al, 2013) nursery ground map available in the Sextant Ifremer data catalogue. (Trimoreau et al, 2013) nursery ground dataset has been modified in order to comply with the standard format developed by the EMODnet Seabed Habitats Lot. In that EMODnet format, the map key classifies areas as ‘high’, ‘medium’, and 'low' suitability. The juvenile density values provided in (Trimoreau et al, 2013) dataset have been used to classify areas as ‘high’, ‘medium’, and 'low' suitability.

Statement

In June 2024, the EMODnet Seabed Habitat Lot converted the dataset (Trimoreau et al, 2013) to the EMODnet standard format. In that EMODnet format, the map key classifies areas as ‘high’, ‘medium’, and 'low' suitability. In order to classify the juvenile density values provided by the (Trimoreau et al, 2013) dataset into 'low', 'medium' or 'high' suitability, the density value 1 was used to separate 'low' and 'medium', and the density value 50 was used to separate 'medium' and 'high'.

Dataset used: Nourricerie de sole en Atlantique, described and downloadable here: https://sextant.ifremer.fr/Donnees/Catalogue#/metadata/e449a4f0-2f4a-4bfb-8c37-e8802d90e194
