This file shows the distribution of seabed substrate classes in Donegal and Sligo Bays on the northwest coast of Ireland. The map was generated from the interpretation of MBES data and groundtruthed using sediment samples.

Substrate classes were generated from the analysis of MBES data collected as part of the INFOMAR national seabed mapping programme. Rock outcrops were digitised from shaded relief imagery. Supervised classification of the acoustic classes identified from backscatter imagery into sediment classes were done using sediment samples collated from the aforementioned seabed mapping programme.

INFOMAR national seabed mapping programme runs from 2006-2016. This map was initially classed using QTC Multiview software but has been updated with additiopnal coverage and semi-automated classification using ArcGIS tools and groundtruth data.
