This file shows the distribution of Annex 1 habitats - estauries, sandbanks, mudflats and sandflats not covered by sea water at low tide, coastal lagoons, reefs and large shallow inlets and bays - in the Lower River Shannon SAC. Habitat mapping is used to help define the area and range parameters for conservation objectives. Site-specific conservation objectives aim to define favourable conservation condition for Habitats Directive Annex I habitats at a site level.

Annex 1 habitats - large shallow inlets and bays, and tidal mudflats and sandflats not covered by seawater at low tide - were delineated by combining field survey data with OSI map data and expert knowledge. Reefs were delineated from orthoimagery, LiDAR and Multibeam Echosounder bathymetric data. Coastal lagoons were delineated by combining OSI map data, orthoimagery and LiDAR with expert knowledge.Extent of sandbanks has been derived from Admiralty Charts.
