The concnetration of particulate matter, particulate macroelements and Chlorophyll a in the coastal waters of the Gulf of Riga, Vitrupe - Ainazi polygon.
The measurements of SPM, particulate TN, TC, Fe, Mn, Al and chlorophyll a, as well as light absorption at 750 nm and 380 nm were done within Estonia-Latvia transboundary project "Towards joint management of the transboundary Gauja/Koiva river basin district" for harmonization of water quality classification system for transboundary water bodies in the Gauja/Koiva river basin district and adjacent areas (in Estonia) in the Gulf of Riga." Measurements were done once in August 2012 along with underwater video observation, water transparency and CTD measurements in coastal waters in shallow part (2 - 12m) of the East coast of the Gulf of Riga. Data were used for Final report on assessment of the quality status of the transboundary water bodies (coastal, lakes, rivers) in Gauja/Koiva river basin district (2013. Kalvane I. and Veidemane K. Statement | Observations were done manually from the motorboat by the specialists of the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology. Water samples were taken by Van Van Dorn water sampler at 1 to 5 m depth; an integrated 5 m hose for water sampling in locations deeper than 5 m. Water samples were filtrate immediately. SPM for measurement of SPM mass in water, Fe, Mn and Al in suspended matter were concentrated on Millipore membrane filters (pore size 0.45 um). Concentration of Fe, Mn, and Al were determined after filter extraction with HNO3 (partially digestion) by AAS with flame atomization. SPM for measurements of total N and C in suspended matter were concentrated on Whatman glass fiber filters (GF/F; pore size 0.7 um). Concentration of TN and TC were determined by direct combustion elemental analyzer. SPM for chlorophyll a analyses were concentrate on Whatman glass fiber filters (GF/C; pore size 1.2 um). Extraction was done by ethanol with following light absorption (at 664 nm) measurement in extract by spectrophotometer. Measurements of light absorption at 750 nm were done in unfiltered water by spectrophotometer (light path length100 mm). Measurements of light absorption at 380 nm were done in water after filtration through Millipore membrane filters (pore size 0.45 um) by spectrophotometer (light path length 100 mm). |
