Sediment microbial diversity was investigated at the lagoonal complex of the Amvrakikos Gulf (Ionian Sea, Western Greece). Sampling was conducted in February of 2011. DNA was extracted from sediment and PCR amplification followed with primers targeting the V5-V6 region of the 16S rDNA gene. The amplicons were sequenced using the 454 GS FLX Titanium Series (Roche).

Egyptian plankton samples for revision as to its phytoplankton content. First samples are dated in 1933 owned by Prof. Steuer, while the other samples are from the Nile area and collected by Dr. Hans Amberg, in 1904. The samples that come from the large district of the Nile prove that the Melosira in Prof. Steuer's material represents a real phytoplankton component of Nile water and not merely a passive swimming organism.

This paper presents the identification of two species, namely Podon polyphemoides and Penilia avirostris by F.M.Ghazzawi, through plankton catches. It includes microphotographs and drawings of the above mentioned species.

The dataset contains information on abiotic parameters from Bay of Heraklion (Crete, Greece). Data include measurements from the water column and the sediment such as salinity, temperature, pH, oxygen concentration and Redox potential. Moreover, nutrient concentrations (NO2, NO3, NH4, PO4, SiO2) and sediment granulometry are included in the dataset. The samples were collected on October 2016 and July 2017 in the framework of JERICO-NEXT.

The dataset contains information on the soft sediment microbial communities from the Bay of Heraklion (Crete, Greece). Data include Bacteria and Archaea OTUs based on sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. The samples were collected on October 2016 and July 2017 in the framework of JERICO-NEXT.

The dataset contains information on the soft sediment macrobenthic communities from the Bay of Heraklion (Crete, Greece). Data include the species of the taxonomic groups of Mollusca, Annelida, Crustacea and Echinodermata found in the area. The samples were collected on October 2016 and July 2017 in the framework of JERICO-NEXT.

In this study, performed under the LifeWatchGreece infrastructure, are presented preliminary results from the digitization of biodiversity data from various sampling expeditions carried out from 1996 to 1999. The main purposes of the project were to examine the biodiversity of mäerl habitats in European seas, assess the anthropogenic impacts and develop conservation strategies for European mäerl beds. Twelve sampling sites were selected. Six of them were subjected to anthropogenic impacts and the other six represented pristine conditions as far as possible. Overall, 4127 records of marine biota were digitized belonging to phyla of the kingdoms Bacteria, Plantae, Chromista and Animalia

This dataset includes species found in the demosponge Sarcotragus foetidus. The sponges were collected form two stations, in depths between 5 and 17 meters. The stations were located in Linaraki (Sithonia, Halkidiki, Greece) and in Milourgia (Kissonerga, Pafos, Cyprus). Sampling in Cyprus was conducted in January of 2003 and August of 2003 and 2007, in depths between 5 and 10 meters. Sampling in Greece was conducted in February and July of 2003, in depths between 14 and 17 meters.

The Zoology Laboratory of the University of Thessaloniki, has undertaken an investigation relating to the benthic fauna of the Evvoia Coast and Evvoia Gulf since 1970. In this study were described specific benthic species. Some of them were recorded for the first time among the marine fauna of our country.
