This dataset contains temperature (°C) and dissolved oxygen concentrations (µmol/l) acquired between April 2015 and September 2016 using an Aanderaa optode (model 3830, sensor head # 1180-520, salinity setting 3.5%, uncorrected for pressure) The sensor. The sensor was positioned on a mussel bed at the base of the Tour Eiffel edifice (1695m depth). Data was acquired every 15 minutes. A two-point calibration at 0% and 100% saturation levels is performed at each maintenance cruise. The optode connected to the TEMPO ecological module is part of the SeaMoN East monitoring node. Important Note: This submission has been initially submitted to SEA scieNtific Open data Edition (SEANOE) publication service and received the recorded DOI. The metadata elements have been further processed (refined) in EMODnet Ingestion Service in order to conform with the Data Submission Service specifications.

This data set includes CTD-O2 and LADCP data from the 46 stations occupied in Storfjorden and Storfjordrenna during the STEP cruise in July 2016 onboard R/V l'Atalante. Hydrographic data are provided in the form of Seabird ascii format (cnv), with two files per station (up and down). The data set also includes underway S-ADCP data provided in netcdf format. Sensor metadata: CTD data were collected with a Seabird SBE 911+ probe. Dissolved oxygen data were collected with a Seabird SBE43 probe attached to the rosette. Additional data include fluorescence (Chelsea Aqua3) and transmission (WET labs C-Star).LADCP data were collected with a pair of 300 kHz Workhorse Sentinel from RD Instruments mounted on the rosette. Shipborne-ADCP data were collected with the 150 kHz Ocean Surveyor (RD Instruments) mounted on the hull of R/V L'Atalante. Important Note: This submission has been initially submitted to SEA scieNtific Open data Edition (SEANOE) publication service and received the recorded DOI. Antipatharia are a diverse group of corals with many species found in deep water. Many Antipatharia are habitat for associates, have extreme longevity and some species can occur beyond 8500 m depth. As they are major constituents of 'coral gardens', which are Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems (VMEs), knowledge of their distribution and environmental requirements is an important pre-requisite for informed conservation planning particularly where the expense and difficulty of deep-sea sampling prohibits comprehensive surveys. This study uses a global database of Antipatharia distribution data to perform habitat suitability modelling using the Maxent methodology to estimate the global extent of black coral habitat suitability. The model of habitat suitability is driven by temperature but there is notable influence from other variables of topography, surface productivity and oxygen levels. This data set has been used as one of the data inputs in the Atlantic REMP project. This project, funded by the European Union, worked together with stakeholders to produce a draft Regional Environmental Management Plan (REMP) for the Area in the North Atlantic, with a focus on the polymetallic sulphide deposits of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge which are of interest for deep-sea mining. There was close collaboration with the International Seabed Authority (ISA) and a consortium of scientific organisations. Marine data from multiple data services underpinned the environmental management plan development. A selection of the data sets is included in EMODnet Ingestion for wider distribution.

Sound scattering layers (SSLs) are observed over a broad range of spatio-temporal scales and geographical areas. SSLs represent a large biomass, likely involved in the biological carbon pump and the structure of marine trophic webs. Yet, the taxonomic composition remains largely unknown for many SSLs. To investigate the challenges of SSL sampling, we performed a survey in a small study area in the Northern Bay of Biscay (France) by combining broadband and narrowband acoustics, net sampling, imagery and video recordings. In order to identify organisms contributing to the observed SSLs, we compared measured frequency spectra to forward predicted spectra derived from biological data. This dataset comprises the echo-integrated broadband acoustic data (in Sv(f)), the nets position and depth, and the abundance and the size of the catched organisms acquired during a specific operation of SSLs sampling during (Blanluet et al.)-[https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0223618]. Important Note: This submission has been initially submitted to SEA scieNtific Open data Edition (SEANOE) publication service and received the recorded DOI. The metadata elements have been further processed (refined) in EMODnet Ingestion Service in order to conform with the Data Submission Service specifications.
