Global Ocean Climatology - Temperature and Salinity Climatology V2 The climatology considers temperature and salinity profiles from Conductivity Depth Temperature (CTD), Ocean station data (OSD) and Moored buoy data (MRB) along with Profiling Floats (PFL) from 1900 to 2017. The gridded fields are computed using DIVAnd (Data Interpolating Variational Analysis) version 2.3.1. Regional climatologies are available in SeaDataNet reference: Kanwal Shahzadi , Nadia Pinardi , Vladislav Lyubartsev , Marco zavatarelli , Simona simoncelli . The Global Ocean Data Analysis Project (GLODAP) is a synthesis activity for ocean surface to bottom biogeochemical data collected through chemical analysis of water samples. Data for 12 core variables (salinity, oxygen, phosphate, nitrate, silicate, dissolved inorganic carbon, total alkalinity, pH, CFC-11, CFC-12, CFC-113 and CCl4) are subjected to primary and secondary quality control to identify outliers and correct for measurement biases.

This layer was created for spatial distribution modelling of Fucus spp. in the northern Baltic Sea (Lappalanen et al, 2019). The layer represents average salinity conditions throughout the growing season, i.e. June-August values averaged over the period 2004-2015. The horizontal resolution is 20 meters. It was re-used for the EUSeaMap 2019. For further details on how it was generated: Lappalainen, J., Virtanen, E.A., Kallio, K., Junttila, S., Viitasalo, M., 2019. Substrate limitation of a habitat-forming genus Fucus under different water clarity scenarios in the northern Baltic Sea.
