EMODnet Chemistry aims to provide access to marine chemistry data sets and derived data products concerning eutrophication, ocean acidification and contaminants. The chemicals chosen reflect importance to the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). This regional aggregated dataset contains all unrestricted EMODnet Chemistry data on contaminants (48 parameters), and covers the Black Sea with 21504 CDI records divided per matrices: 7 biota profiles, 19677 water profiles, 1820 sediment profiles. Vertical profiles temporal range is from 1974-08-24 to 2017-10-06. Data were aggregated and quality controlled by ‘National Institute for Marine Research and Development "Grigore Antipa"’ from Romania. Regional datasets concerning contaminants are automatically harvested. Parameter names in these datasets are based on P01, BODC Parameter Usage Vocabulary, which is available at: http://seadatanet.maris2.nl/bandit/browse_step.php . Each measurement value has a quality flag indicator. The resulting data collections for each Sea Basin are harmonised, and the collections are quality controlled by EMODnet Chemistry Regional Leaders using ODV Software and following a common methodology for all Sea Regions. Harmonisation means that: (1) unit conversion is carried out to express contaminant concentrations with a limited set of measurement units (according to EU directives 2013/39/UE; Comm. Dec. EU 2017/848) and (2) merging of variables described by different “local names”, but corresponding exactly to the same concepts in BODC P01 vocabulary. The harmonised dataset can be downloaded as ODV spreadsheet (TXT file), which is composed of metadata header followed by tab separated values. This worksheet can be imported to ODV Software for visualisation (More information can be found at: https://www.seadatanet.org/Software/ODV ). The same dataset is offered also as XLSX file in a long/vertical format, in which each P01 measurement is a record line. Additionally, there are a series of columns that split P01 terms in subcomponents (measure, substance, CAS number, matrix...).This transposed format is more adapted to worksheet applications users (e.g. LibreOffice Calc). The 48 parameter names in this metadata record are based on P02, SeaDataNet Parameter Discovery Vocabulary, which is available at: http://seadatanet.maris2.nl/v_bodc_vocab_v2/vocab_relations.asp?lib=P02 . Detailed documentation will be published soon. The original datasets can be searched and downloaded from EMODnet Chemistry Download Service: https://emodnet-chemistry.maris.nl/search

The (JGOFS)-[http://ijgofs.whoi.edu/]), 2, focus on small scale biogeochemical processes, in particular at a daily scale, 3, study the influence of nitrogen, phosphorus and iron on oceanic fertility and 4, conduct a calibration/validation operation for the SeaWIFS (Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-View Sensor) color sensor. To reach these objectives, the studied areas, as well as the cruise plan, were designed : To investigate different trophic regimes, to investigate systems characterized by different degrees of limitation in nitrogen and phosphorus and to study stable ("steady state") systems for a sufficiently long period. The cruise track encompassed a variety of trophic systems ranging from eutrophic conditions associated to the Moroccan upwelling to the typical ultra-oligotrophic conditions of the eastern Mediterranean sea during summer stratification. Two main types of stations were occupied : 9 short (4-hour) stations. These sites were occupied around the solar noon and were essentially designed to conduct objectives 1 (JGOFS process studies) and 4 (SeaWIFS validation/calibration) 3 "long" (5-day) stations, where all four objectives were investigated with a particular emphasis on objectives 2 (processes at a daily scale) and 3 (nutrient resources and oceanic fertility). Between each station, continuous multiparametric (hydrological, optical, biological and chemical) surface acquisitions were performed. Important Note: This submission has been initially submitted to SEA scieNtific Open data Edition (SEANOE) publication service and received the recorded DOI. The metadata elements have been further processed (refined) in EMODnet Ingestion Service in order to conform with the Data Submission Service specifications.

The SIGNAL research project, funded by the BiodivERsA call of the ERA-Net, focuses on the effects of extreme weather events on biodiversity, ecosystem functions, resilience and tipping points in grasslands along a pan-European climatic gradient. Studying the effects of extreme drought on biodiversity and ecosystem functions is a key facet of current climate change research. SIGNAL will investigate mechanisms of resilience in European grassland prone to novel climate extremes and identify early warning signals of thresholds and regime shifts by installation of replicated experimental manipulations of climate extremes at 8 grassland sites across Europe (field experiments and mesocoms including legumes, invasive species, species richness and within-species diversity). SIGNAL results will provide experimental evidence on mechanisms of resilience across European gradients, which may serve to regulate ecosystem services in the face of climate extremes and foster the identification of early warning signals of thresholds of regime shift. SIGNAL is well-connected within the scientific community, members belonging to large research initiatives such as CLIMMANI, CExtreme, Precip-Net, TERRAC, INTERFACE producing outstanding scientific insights, contributing to global science networks, such as IGBP and DIVERSITAS. SIGNAL will intensely serve the science-policy interface by delivering timely, highly relevant and understandable information to policymakers and stakeholders about European gradients of resilience and indicators of tipping points in the face of climate extremes, supporting EU policies and national legislative frameworks.
