  • Surface waves data collected at a moored station 50km offshore Israel west of Haifa, where the seabed is at depth of nearly 1.5 km. The measuring instrument was a Nortek Signature 500 Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP) installed on a submerged buoy at a depth of about 30 m. The data includes the following parameters: significant wave height, maximal wave height, peak wave period, mean wave period, peak direction and mean direction.

These weather buoys are moored surface buoys with instruments which collect weather and ocean data including air temperature, atmospheric humidity, sea surface temperature, sea temperature and salinity on moored chain, wave statistics and wind speed/direction. This data set relates to the data collected at station FS1 between January 2003 and February 2008. The Weather Buoy network has been established to improve predictive weather forecasting. The weather buoy project has consisted of a team drawn together under an MOU between the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (DTTAS), the Marine Institute (MI), Met Eireann and the UK Met Office. There have been incomplete data observations for periods when the weather buoys were offline for maintenance and or damage from adverse weather conditions such as storms.
