New EMODnet Webpages Tailored for Society, Policy, Innovation and the Blue Economy

EMODnet recently launched four new webpages, each dedicated to supporting sustainable ocean management, fostering innovation, and aiding evidence-based policymaking. Explore how EMODnet supports society, research and innovation, EU and global policy, and the blue economy, under the ‘Solutions’ tab of the EMODnet Portal. These new resources were published in time for European Maritime Day 2025 in Cork, Ireland.

EMODnet for the European Ocean Pact

In June 2025, the European Commission launched the European Ocean Pact, a framework for connecting EU ocean-related policy which puts marine knowledge front-and-centre as a cross-cutting foundation and an enabler for delivering EU policy – from Maritime Spatial Planning Directive (MSPD) to the Nature Restoration, including EU Member State commitments to global ocean policy frameworks including the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ). This follows the EC call for evidence for the European Ocean Pact in early 2025 to which EMODnet responded, together with over 900 other key actors and stakeholders in the landscape.

Advancing Marine Data Services: EMODnet at OOSC and UNOC3

EMODnet played a significant role in two recent global ocean events in June 2025: the One Ocean Science Congress (OOSC) and the third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3). As a key contributor to the European Digital Twin Ocean (EDITO) at the Digital Ocean Pavilion, EMODnet experts together with the European Commission DG MARE were active through poster exhibitions, workshops on regional data services for the global ocean data ecosystem and showcasing EMODnet’s marine knowledge supporting the European Ocean Pact and EMODnet’s in situ contribution to EDITO working in collaboration with Copernicus Marine Service.

EMODnet thematics share their latest advancements at the One Ocean Science Congress (OOSC) 2025

EMODnet showcased its global impact with the ocean community during the OOS Congress 2025 in Nice, France. From showcasing the innovative EDITO platform to unveiling groundbreaking marine data and science advancements, EMODnet’s presence underscored its pivotal role in the global ocean data ecosystem.

EMODnet at European Maritime Day 2025 in Cork, Ireland

From 21-23 May 2025, EMODnet made a significant impact at the European Maritime Days (EMD2025) in Cork, Ireland. EMODnet had an exhibition booth and welcomed many stakeholders to discuss the latest EMODnet services, data sharing opportunities and use case and EMODnet's Biology Coordinator, Joana Beja (VLIZ, Belgium) spoke at a workshop on biological ocean observation. EMODnet also contributed to presenting EDITO, together with colleagues from Mercator Ocean International and Copernicus Marine. This annual event, organized by the European Commission, brought together around 1,200 marine and maritime stakeholders to discuss and shape the future of Europe’s marine knowledge supporting EU policy and a green and competitive blue economy.

Further reflections on EMODnet Chemistry at EGU 2025

At the General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union (EGU GA), EMODnet Chemistry presented its mission and development, as well as the many use cases collected in its 16 years of activity. The EGU GA welcomes international geoscientists working in all disciplines of Earth, planetary and space sciences. In addition to the overview of the project results, the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS), which coordinates EMODnetChemistry, presented a poster explaining the latest progress in the interoperability of validated data collections via the ERDDAP service.
