EC Blue Economy Conference at Sealogy 2021

On 18 November, the EMODnet Secretariat was invited to present at the EC Blue Economy Conference, taking place back-to-back with Sealogy® 2021 in Ferrara, Italy.

The Conference was a chance to discuss the EU Blue Economy Report 2021 and to assess new approaches, tools and knowledge that can underpin a more sustainable and ‘green’ transition for the Blue Economy. The EMODnet presentation took place in the Closing Plenary Session on “Blue knowledge, skills and innovation for a sustainable blue economy” and highlighted the many win-win collaborations that EMODnet already has with the Blue Economy, in terms of use cases where the Blue Economy utilizes EMODnet’s integrated marine data, data products and services to support operations at sea, and the benefits for industry of working with EMODnet Data Ingestion that can support the sharing, curation and integration of marine environmental and human activities data into EMODnet. The panel was chaired by Andreea Strachinescu, Head of Unit, DG MARE, EC and also included interventions from Iain Shepherd, senior expert, DG MARE, EC and wider experts from the public and private sector working in the fields of marine and maritime education, training and the wider marine and maritime domain.
