EDITO is presented at Ecopath 40 Years

News article |

This event brought together international ecosystem modelers utilizing the 'Ecopath with Ecosim' (EwE) framework and software, celebrating four decades of advancements and applications using the (EwE) modeling approach for fisheries management, marine conservation, ecosystem dynamics, climate impacts, and ecosystem-based management (EBM).EMODnet actively participated throughout the conference with an exhibition booth.

The workshop titled “Data Lakes for Ecosystem Modeling” was co-organised by the EMODnet Secretariat, Deltares and Mercator Ocean International as partners of the EDITO-Infra and EDITO-ModelLab. The workshop highlighted the extensive and diverse in situ marine data made available as integrated pan-European layers by EMODnet, and demonstrated how these data are being integrated into the Data Lake for the European Digital Twin Ocean (EDITO) in collaboration with the Copernicus Marine Service. Such data is invaluable for users developing ecosystem models. Conor Delaney, Technical Coordinator of EMODnet, presented ongoing work in EDITO-Infra on integrating in situ and satellite marine data from the two data services.

Additionally, Lorinc Meszaros from Deltares showcased the modeling capabilities of the EDITO platform, developed by the EDITO-ModelLab project. The event was a good opportunity to exchange with marine ecosystem modellers, a key stakeholder group for the co-design, testing and implementation of the EU Digital Twin Ocean, with some ECOPATH Conference attendees also participating in the DOF 2024 (see highlight above).
