The EMOD-network participated in force at the second edition of the International Ocean Data Conference (IODC-II) on 20-21 March 2023 and the 27th session of the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange" (IODE) of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, held back-to-back on 22-24 March 2023.

On 20-21 March 2023, EMODnet joined international experts in ocean data at the IOC-UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, for the second edition of the International Ocean Data Conference (IODC-II). The EMOD-network was well represented, with Bathymetry, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Data Ingestion, and the Secretariat all present. The EMODnet Secretariat’s Conor Delaney presented the recent EMODnet unification of services and further talks identified EMODnet as a good example of an integrated and interdisciplinary Ocean Data System to address societal challenges. One key EMODnet presentation was from the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics - OGS, which presented EMODnet Chemistry's key contribution to 'Tackling marine pollution in the Mediterranean: the need for harmonised multidisciplinary data' was part of Session 4 'Interdisciplinarity, societal needs', which focused on outlining efforts to create integrated and interdisciplinary ocean data systems that meet specific societal needs and support decision-making and planning.

Jan-Bart Calewaert, EMODnet Secretariat, Chaired the first IODC session on Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) data, and was a panelist at a session on the UN Ocean Decade Data Coordination Group (DCG) and an update on the UN Ocean Decade Data and Information Strategy, to which EMODnet is an active contributor as co-Chair of the DCG.  The IODC-II followed the first successful Conference in Sopot, Poland held in February 2022.

In the same week, EMODnet also participated in the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange" (IODE) of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO 27th session on 22-24 March 2023, back-to-back with the IODC-II Conference. EMODnet was represented by 5 thematics (Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics and Seabed Habitats), Data Ingestion and the Secretariat. The meeting discussed community recommendations for the future evolution of IODE.
