At the Ocean Best Practices Workshop VIII, held from October 14-18, 2024, EMODnet and Copernicus Marine Service collaborated to present best practices for enhancing data and service interoperability within the European Digital Twin of the Ocean (EU DTO). During the session on October 16, 2024, EMODnet Biology Coordinator Joana Beja (VLIZ) presented on its conventions used, with wider discussions on critical standards for data integration, focusing on the EDITO-Infra project, which aims to create a robust EU infrastructure supporting the EU DTO.
As a core element of the EU Mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters," the EU DTO is designed to provide actionable insights for ocean stakeholders, addressing challenges like climate adaptation and biodiversity preservation, with significant impacts on policy areas such as fisheries, aquaculture, and offshore renewables. EMODnet and Copernicus Marine have already integrated extensive marine data into a common data lake, showcasing the importance of standardized data and metadata. The session highlighted ongoing efforts to harmonize marine data through a co-construction process with EU R&D projects, featuring practical examples of this collaborative standardization work.
