EMODnet Human Activities Coordinator Alessandro Pititto participated in a roundtable on Innovations in Coastal Monitoring and Forecasting for early warning systems that took place in Rimini, Italy on 6 November, during the Ecomondo green technology expo event. The roundtable was part of a series of events organized during Ecomondo by the Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience (DCC-CR) and focused on pioneering solutions and technological advances for coastal resilience.
Moderated by Fernanda Terra Stori from the DCC-CR, the roundtable saw interventions from Giovanni Coppini and Viviana Piermattei (CMCC), Renata Archetti (University of Bologna), Luisa Perini (Emilia Romagna Region), Alessandro Pititto (EMODnet), Stefano Casu (Castalia), and Daniela Iasillo (Planetek).
Speakers touched upon the essential ingredients of services in support of coastal resilience, including best practices and gaps, as well as science and technology developments that are required to implement new services and to provide the much-needed data that can be then harmonized by EC marine data services like EMODnet. In particular, Alessandro Pititto from EMODnet outlined the challenges and opportunities to continue and strengthen the EMODnet infrastructure.
“For us, first and foremost, the most important ingredient is the availability of FAIR data and data products, covering the open ocean, the coastal marine environment, as well as human activities in the ocean and around the coast”. Alessandro Pititto, EMODnet Human Activities Coordinator
