EMODnet made a notable impact at the One Ocean Science (OOS) Congress 2025 held Nice, France from 3-6 June. The event featured exhibitions on ocean-based strategies to meet the Paris Climate Agreement goals, tackle marine plastic pollution, assess the environmental footprint of maritime transport, provide science-driven insights for sustainable action, offer hydrological service to coastal communities, and much more.
Many posters had presented the latest advancements of EMODnet in marine data and science with the global ocean community, including:
Assessment of Regional Sea level Information for Effective Adaptation to Rising Seas by Angélique Melet et al.;
EMODnet as the EU Data Platform for Marine Litter Data by Alessandra Giorgetti et al.;
ECoSS: Unlocking the Marine Soundscape with an AI-Powered Curated Open Library of Underwater Sound Signatures by Rosa Martínez et al.;
European Marine Observations and Data Network: Science-Driven Insights for Sustainable Action Antonio Novellino & Patrick Gorringe;
European Digital Twin Ocean platform: an innovative platform for making ocean knowledge readily available by Marina Tonani et al.
EMODnet’s extensive presence at OOS2025 underscored its global influence. The pan-EMODnet community poster, co-authored by the Secretariat, Central Portal, thematic and data ingestion coordinators, was also exhibited.
Additionally, EMODnet’s partnership with the German Ocean Foundation, SSI Scuba Schools International, and SMHI was showcased. This collaboration aims to launch what may become the world’s largest citizen science initiative for the ocean, engaging the ocean sports communities- from divers to sailors- to enhance marine data collection. This data will feed directly into the EMODnet Portal, bolstering the EU’s Ocean knowledge base and digital ocean.
