EMODnet welcomes two new Associated Partners

News article |

EMODnet is thrilled to announce and welcome two new Associated Partners to the EMOD-network, namely Van Oord and savvy navvy. Both organisation bring unique expertise and a strong commitment to advancing collaboration with EMODnet in the areas of data sharing, best practices in marine data, information technology and data services, and expanding the users of EMODnet, including for the Blue Economy.

1. Savvy navvy

Savvy navvy has been in business for 8 years. Their focus is on leisure marine boating navigation, and they have a wealth of data on boater behaviour and a key chart layer that show sensitive seabed locations and marine protected areas. Savvy navvy is the link between the ocean environmental and scientific world and the boater. Savvy navvy is currently working with OCT (Ocean Conservation Trust), Clean Sailors, Guernsey and Alderney Wildlife Trust, Natural England, Blue Meadows (and OCT project) and Protected Seas in the US. The application letter specifies that joining the EMODnet Associated Partnership would help savvy navvy to build deeper and stronger networks, find new data sources, amplify EMODnet messaging and help us influence their boating community so they can make different decisions when they are on the water. Savvy navvy has already had interactions with EMODnet Seabed Habitats regarding the Seagrass coverage data.

2.  Van Oord

As an international maritime contractor, Van Oord’s focus is on dredging, land infrastructure in the Netherlands, offshore wind and oil & gas infrastructure. They work with their stakeholders to come up with innovative and sustainable solutions. Their purpose and mission arise from four important drivers. The growing world population needs more space. Maritime transport requires new and improved infrastructure. Climate change requires better coastal protection. The demand for energy continues to rise and a sustainable energy system is essential to meet future energy needs. Van Oord is represented on the EC Marine Knowledge Expert Group, and on the UN Ocean Decade corporate data sharing group

In conclusion, these new Associated Partners will bring diverse perspectives and invaluable contributions to EMODnet. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration that will enhance our capabilities in marine and maritime data management and utilization. Together, we continue to build a stronger, more interconnected network to address the challenges and opportunities in the marine and maritime domain.
