The session demonstrated the EU marine data service offer and tools across three key UN Ocean Decade challenges: understanding and combating marine pollution, protecting and restoring ecosystems and biodiversity, and unlocking ocean-based solutions to climate change.
The agenda included an introduction to the UN Ocean Decade challenges, led by IOC UNESCO, followed by presentations on how marine data aligns with these objectives. EMODnet presented its Chemistry in situ data products, demonstrating their applications in addressing marine pollution, and offering valuable insights into pollution trends and impacts. The session also featured presentations from EUMETSAT and Copernicus Marine Service, showcasing work on marine heatwaves and plastic pollution. The event concluded with demonstrations of data notebooks and practical use cases, illustrating how these data products contribute directly to sustainable ocean management and support the UN Ocean Decade goals.
