Map of the Week – Marine science and research infrastructures
On 30 September, events are organised throughout Europe in the framework of European Researchers Night. The European Researchers' Night is an annual Europe-wide public event, which displays the diversity of science and its impact on citizens' daily lives in fun, inspiring ways. It aims to
- bring research and researchers closer to the public;
- promote excellent research projects across Europe and beyond;
- increase the interest of young people in science and research careers;
- showcase the impact of researchers’ work on people’s daily lives.
Several projects included in the programme are related to the ocean: Blue-connect , BlueNIGHTs and OCEAN NIGHT .
Speaking of marine science, this week, the European Atlas of the Seas participated in the annual conference of the European Marine Science Educators Association (EMSEA ), hosted by Sea teach , which took place at the Palma Aquarium in Mallorca (Spain). EMSEA, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, acts as a hub for the European marine education community to promote and deliver Ocean Literacy across society by working with scientists, teachers, policy makers and the public. The conference brought together members from all over Europe to discuss the latest developments in the field of ocean literacy and share their experience. It was a great opportunity to discover the work of the Palma Aquarium and its rescue center for marine wildlife, hear about a wide diversity of great projects and learn about the activities of the Network of European Blue Schools! During the conference, the Charter for Blue Education initiated by the EU4Ocean Coalition and its Network of European Blue Schools welcomed two new signatories. This charter is a commitment to collaborating and aligning strategies between European education networks and sustainability initiatives, confirming the engagement to strengthen blue education, and supporting societal transformation in Europe.
