Next week, the hybrid ‘Let’s make Europe Blue’ EU4Ocean Ocean Literacy Summit will take place on 19-22 May in the framework of European Maritime Day 2022. Participants will take part in the event both in person in Ravenna (Italy) and online. Established in 2008, European Maritime Day (EMD) is the annual European Union meeting point on maritime affairs and sustainable blue growth. This conference connects policy makers, scientists, industry and society through high-level plenary and thematic sessions, workshops and an exhibition area. The EU4Ocean Coalition was launched two years ago and the Summit will be the occasion to reward the most outstanding initiatives to date, showcase and discuss activities carried out and look forward to the future! Organisations, individuals, young people, schools and teachers will come together to celebrate their efforts and commitment to the Ocean and invite others to join them in their work to enhance ocean literacy throughout Europe.
Participants in the Summit will be able to:
- Visit the EU4Ocean Coalition booth and exhibition space in Ravenna (Italy) on 19 and 20 May;
- Join the Ocean Literacy EU4Ocean Summit on 20 May which will consist of plenary sessions and the following four parallel workshops:
- The cities we need for the ocean we want
- Youth and Capacity building for Ocean Literacy - Connecting generations through storytelling
- Citizens Empowerment through Ocean knowledge co-production
- From individual to collective action: the role for sea basin initiatives to strengthen Ocean Literacy in Europe
- Participate in the Ocean Literacy Festival on 20-22 May. The Festival will connect Ocean Literacy actors from Europe, and showcase the wide diversity of ocean literacy initiatives already in place. It will feature on-site events (in Ravenna, Italy) as well as hybrid events organised in different locations across Europe and the various sea-basins (which will then be broadcast online).
