Map of the Week – Mission Actions and European Ocean Days 2025

News article |
Mission Actions are classified in five categories: research and innovation; evidence-based knowledge and data; upscaling, deployment and replication of solutions; citizen engagement, outreach, awareness raising; and education and training.

The second edition of the European Ocean Days 2025 will take place on 3-7 March 2025, in Brussels, bringing together experts, policymakers, and ocean advocates to address key marine and maritime challenges. This event will provide a platform for in-depth discussions on the sustainable blue economy, fisheries science, the European Union (EU) Mission ‘Restore our Ocean and Waters’ actions, blue investments, and engagement with key stakeholders, including youth. As Europe strengthens its collective response to growing pressures on ocean health and works toward resilient and thriving ocean and coastal areas, promoting the blue economy, this year’s Ocean Days will play a pivotal role in shaping the European Ocean Pact — an initiative designed to ensure coherence across all EU ocean-related policies.

Regional engagement and cooperation are key to shaping the future of the ocean, and the European Ocean Days 2025 will highlight these priorities. On 4 March, the third Annual Forum of the EU Mission: Restore Our Ocean and Waters will take stock of the Mission’s progress and major achievements, mobilise relevant actors around key deliverables, and discuss the strategic steps needed to reach the 2030 targets. A crucial part of the Mission is the joint effort of area-based Mission Actions—initiatives aligned with the Mission’s goal to protect and restore ocean and water health through research and innovation, citizen engagement, and blue investments.
