From 21 to 23 November 2018, the secretariats of EMODnet, European Marine Board and EuroGOOS organised a three-day EOOS Conference in The Egg in Brussels, Belgium. This event brought together and connected diverse ocean observing stakeholder communities, from science, public authorities, industries including fisheries, energy, transport, and wider society.
The EOOS Conference was all about connecting communities, building on progress made at the EOOS Forum, taking place on 8 March 2018, to present an EOOS strategy and implementation plan, together with a strong call to action. It was an opportunity to showcase ocean observing & monitoring initiatives, network with stakeholders across Europe and help shape the future European Ocean Observing System (EOOS).
The Conference delivered a Call to Action for the EU and European countries to better coordinate and align the various data collection initiatives and work together towards a more concerted, fit for purpose and cost-effective European ocean observing capability. Progress of the Conference Call to Action will be evaluated in one year’s time by the members of the Conference advisory committee, with support from the co-organising secretariats.
