EMODnet’s unique and diverse offer of in situ data makes EMODnet a go-to service for the EU Blue Economy, across all sectors, with EMODnet providing trusted marine knowledge at local, regional and European scales that the Blue Economy sectors use to inform the planning of new offshore installations, to support operations at sea, and to underpin the green and digital transitions of the Blue Economy (see EMODnet use cases for examples).
In particular, EMODnet can support the private sector and wider Blue Economy by:
- Improving offshore operators’ efficiency and costs through the provision of FAIR marine knowledge at European scale that not only enriches company data, but can provide a trusted baseline for Blue Economy planning, informing the (micro)siting of offshore platforms and installations and enabling the Blue Economy to also save costs by targeting any data collection efforts on specific client needs;
- Stimulating competition and innovation in established and emerging maritime sectors by providing curated, FAIR data, integrated by parameter at European scale, and with EMODnet data products fully open (CC BY 4.0 license) that the Blue Economy and all stakeholders can use to develop applications and businesses on top.;
- Supporting the green transition and nature-based planning by providing a diverse offer of marine environmental and human activities data and data products in one place that can be visualized, downloaded and used together to inform decision-making for planning, environmental impact assessments and to empower the Blue Economy to be part of the solution towards a climate neutral Europe with restored biodiversity and ecosystems and with zero pollution;
- Providing a trusted, free service for data sharing where the private sector and any stakeholders without established data pipelines into EMODnet can share their data and metadata with EMODnet Data Ingestion so that it can be curated into FAIR data and integrated into the EMODnet offer.
You can find more detailed information in the EMODnet for Business brochure.
The EMODnet Associated Partnership Scheme is a network aimed at the private and public-private partnerships for stakeholders to have a closer dialogue with EMODnet, to promote data sharing from the Blue Economy and related sectors, and to increase the awareness and uptake of EMODnet’s marine knowledge and services by wider stakeholders.
In addition, EMODnet organizes sector-specific workshops to enhance the dialogue with the Blue Economy. Since 2020 this has included several online workshops with the aquaculture, offshore renewable energy, coastal tourism, and ports, boats and marinas sectors which gathered key actors across the marine knowledge value chain of these sectors together with EMODnet and policy experts to discuss the use of EMODnet by these sectors, the sector-specific needs and requirements and the data sharing opportunities. The reports for all of these workshops are publicly available on the EMODnet Portal Reports section (under Secretariat reports).
