EMODnet Biology was invited to give a presentation titled “Strengthening ocean observation value chain through regional cooperation: lessons from EMODnet Biology” at the 22nd UN Open-ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea meeting in New York.

This week-long meeting has been organized since 2000 as an annual event where experts are invited to present their contributions to the proposed theme. The 22nd meeting will focus on ‘Ocean observing’ and EMODnet Biology will provide a regional (European) perspective of the ocean data value chain and will contribute to the subsequent discussion on how a better international cooperation and coordination can address some of the data challenges faced by the ocean community.

The provisional agenda covers topics such as: Ocean observing: tools, contributing to science-based decision-making and challenges relating to gaps in observational data; international cooperation and coordination in advancing ocean observing and addressing related challenges; as well as other aspects related with how the General Assembly works and plans future plenaries.

All presentations, including the one given by EMODnet Biology will be available via the meeting website (UN - Oceans & Law of the Sea) .
