During the meeting of the EMODnet Chemistry Project Full Group, held on 22 September 2026, the results of the satisfaction survey – designed to collect feedback from participants in the latest EMODnet Chemistry training course – were presented. How helpful and how difficult was the course? Which topics are missing or should be covered in more detail? How can we improve the tools used to manage the data sets? The answers to these questions will greatly help the training organisers to plan the…
In August 2026, EurOBIS carried out its latest data harvest, adding 32 new and updated marine biodiversity datasets and more than 722,000 occurrence records. The data span a wide range of topics, from subtidal macroalgae monitoring in the Azores to Mediterranean fish-diet studies and environmental DNA surveys. The records are now available through EurOBIS and are also being registered with OBIS and GBIF, widening the reach of these observations.
Demersal fisheries are a major contributor to global food supply, but also significantly affect marine ecosystem functioning. Physical contact of fishing gear with the seabed induces many changes to the sediment, including a direct mortality of benthic organisms (Sciberras et al. 2018). Understanding the effect of bottom trawling on benthic life is a necessary step towards a correct assessment of fisheries impact and may aid fisheries management.
A fishing impact model was applied to benthic…
During summer 2026, EMODnet Data Ingestion (DI) kicked off a new phase, with an updated consortium of organisations and experts, led by the CMCC, Italy. This delivers continuity of the existing service, together with strategic evolution of EMODnet’s data ingestion service building on the EMODnet Vision 2035.
