During summer 2026, EMODnet Data Ingestion (DI) kicked off a new phase, with an updated consortium of organisations and experts, led by the CMCC, Italy. This delivers continuity of the existing service, together with strategic evolution of EMODnet’s data ingestion service building on the EMODnet Vision 2035.
Following the success of its first edition, the European Commission organised the 2nd European Maritime Spatial Planning Week from 1 to 5 June 2026 in Brussels (Belgium), hosting a week-long series of events dedicated to Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP). May 2026 marked an impactful month for EMODnet, with active participation in multiple ocean observation, marine and maritime events in Cyprus marking the nation’s presidency of the Council of the European Union. On 3–4 February 2026, EMODnet participated actively in the CS-MACH1 Marine Citizen Science (MSC) Data Network workshop held in Ostend (Belgium) and online. The workshop formally launched the Marine Citizen Science Data Network (MCSDN), bringing together over 350 citizen scientists, data experts, cost-effective technology developers and data users from across Europe and beyond to strengthen collaboration and accelerate FAIR marine data flows.
On 24 November 2025, the EMODnet Partner network — comprising 133 organisations from 33 countries — gathered in Brussels for the EMODnet Partner Jamboree meeting, ahead of the EMODnet Open Conference 2025. In 2024, EMODnet co-contributed to the writing of the MSPglobal Data Toolbox: Volume 1 – How to develop a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) for Marine Spatial Planning, a guidance document developed by the MSPglobal initiative, designed to equip Marine Spatial Planning practitioners with the tools and knowledge necessary to develop and maintain a robust SDI that support long-term marine planning objectives.
