EMODnet Seabed Habitats (ESH) is organising a three-day workshop in Anguilla (22–24 April 2026). It will facilitate engagement with regional stakeholders and actors in seabed mapping in the Caribbean region, building on existing partnerships. The workshop will provide an overview of ESH work, explore regional habitat mapping efforts, and create space for exchange to ensure EMODnet activities effectively address regional needs.
On 24 November 2025, the EMODnet Partner network — comprising 133 organisations from 33 countries — gathered in Brussels for the EMODnet Partner Jamboree meeting, ahead of the EMODnet Open Conference 2025. This community event brought together experts from EMODnet’s seven thematics — Biology, Bathymetry, Geology, Seabed Habitats, Chemistry, Physics, Human Activities, EMODnet Data Ingestion, Central Portal and Secretariat. The partner meetings included kick-off meeting of some thematics’ new…
EMODnet is delighted to share further highlights from its recent Open Conference (OC) 2025, held on 25–26 November 2025 in Brussels, Belgium, including presentations photos and more. The OC brought together more than 450 participants from 33 countries on-site and online, with sessions showcasing EMODnet, the European Union’s in situ marine data service, and its essential role in delivering actionable marine data and knowledge for the European Ocean Pact. The event also launched the EMODnet…
The 2 year extension to Phase 5 of the EMODnet Seabed Habitats project commenced in September 2025 and will run for two years through to 2027. The project aims to build on the existing data libraries and products hosted on the EMODnet Portal.
At the Living Data 2025 conference, which took place 21–24 October 2025 in Bogotá, Colombia, EMODnet Biology showcased its diverse work through several presentations, highlighting the consortium’s broad activities and its connections to other European and global marine-data initiatives.
A new EMODnet data product, created by EMODnet Biology partner the University of Sheffield, UK, matches the occurrences of macrobenthic invertebrate species in European seas to a map of seabed habitat types as defined in the EMODnet broad-scale seabed habitat map (EUSeaMap) by EMODnet Seabed Habitats. For this product we use the standard European Nature Information System (EUNIS) habitat classifications for marine sediments. This allows users to obtain lists of benthic species occurring in…
EMODnet Seabed Habitats took part in the Marine Geological and Biological Habitat Mapping (GEOHAB) 2025 Conference, held from 12–16 May in Key West, Florida. This long-standing international gathering brought together over 150 global experts in marine geology, biology, and spatial analysis to exchange knowledge on benthic habitats and sustainable ocean management. EMODnet contributed to discussions with a talk on EUSeaMap development in the Caribbean and a poster on coastal wetlands, sharing…
The EMODnet service is proud to announce that its Data Ingestion service has been integrated into the EMODnet Portal! The migration of this EMODnet component to the Europa domain is a major milestone for EMODnet, with Ingestion joining the seven thematics in the EMODnet one-stop data and services portal. The core functionalities of EMODnet Data Ingestion services remain the same but are now combined and integrated with the other EMODnet services, making it even easier for potential data…
