On 18 June 2021, The EC Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) organized an Ocean Observation event in close collaboration with the EMODnet Secretariat, European Marine Board Secretariat, EuroGOOS and Copernicus Marine Service. The event consisted of two sessions: 1. Ocean observing technology, and 2. Ocean observing gaps and requirements.
EMODnet Geology has released new datasets on earthquakes, submarine landslides, volcanoes, tsunamis, fluid emissions and Quaternary tectonics in seas surrounding European countries, extending from Iceland to Turkey and including the Caspian Sea.
A new update of the seabed substrates has been released by EMODnet Geology. The coverage of the data products has expanded to new sea areas, and the broad scale data product (1: 1 000 000/5 000 000) now includes the Caspian Sea. In addition, the update adds new scales into the multiscale data product with the current data including scales from as detailed as 1:1500.
EMODnet Geology have updated the Seafloor Geology data product. This data product compiles and harmonizes the European marine geology map data as detailed as possible for the themes: pre-Quaternary, Quaternary geology and geomorphology.
EMODnet Geology has released new datasets of recorded marine minerals known to accumulate in seas surrounding European waters. Information on the types of minerals has relevance to engineering, planning and science.
The EMODnet Central Portal - EU’s gateway to in situ marine data in Europe and beyond - has moved to an European Commission (Europa) web address: emodnet.ec.europa.eu! This repatriation under a 'europa.eu' subdomain is an important milestone and reflects the long-term commitment of the European Commission Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) to EMODnet as a trustworthy and reliable operational service.
